Next week something very exciting is happening – the Australian editors’ and indexers’ conference, write | edit | index, is running here in Canberra. FIVE SLEEPS, PEOPLE!
Two years in the making (I’ve been on the organising committee for one year of those two), this big event will have about 280 delegates from across Australia, and even some international guests and speakers. We indexers make up about 20% of the delegates. For professionals who typically work alone from home, any workshop or conference is always a welcome opportunity for us to see friends and colleagues, and make new friends! Oh, and learn new stuff too 😉
If you’re interested, you can follow live updates from the conference on our blog, and via @writeeditindex on Twitter. I will be tweeting and blogging live from the venue, along with a couple of other brave souls.
I’m rather excited that David Astle is one of our keynote speakers — he’ll be the first other cryptic crossword writer I’ll have met in person. The inestimable Jackie French is our other keynote speaker. So there’s plenty to look forward to!
The main problem I have with a four-stream conference is there’s too many things I want to go to, and choosing just one to attend at one time is going to be difficult. Maybe I can attend one quarter of each? I’m sure people wouldn’t mind …
