MoXWord is here!
MoXWord is a tiny java midlet which can run on any mobile phone which is Java-enabled. The crossword files - including all layout, clues, and answers - are packaged inside the midlet, so all you need to do to get MoXWord onto your phone is download the file, and start playing! Each MoxWord midlet comes with a set of crosswords. When you've finished playing all the crosswords, you simply get the next set. Download a free copy today!
Will it run on my phone?Your phone must be able to run Java MIDP 2, and have a screen size of at least 128 x 128 pixels. MoXWord has been tested on a wide range of phones, and should work on any Java-enabled phone built from 2005 onwards, including phones with touch screens and qwerty keyboards. If your phone successfully downloads the midlet, it should run on your phone. If your phone can't run the midlet, it should pick this up before downloading the .jar file (this information is contained in the small .jad file the phone downloads before the .jar file). Security & so onWhen you load MoXWord onto your phone, your phone will bring up a message saying it's from an 'untrusted source'. This simply means that we haven't put each volume of our midlet through one of the prohibitively expensive certification or verification programs. The only consequence of downloading an 'untrusted' midlet is that your phone will apply very strict internal security to the midlet, to prevent it from doing anything much. This is perfectly fine, as MoXWord is safe, can't access your phone's system, and will still work. MoxWord has been written in Java, which is intrinsically secure and safe code. It can't do anything to your phone's system, and can't carry any viruses, trojans, worms etc (unlike a C++ midlet). Such problems don't even exist in the Java world. So you can download MoXWord and give it a try, and not worry about anything apart from figuring out the clues! Getting StartedUse your navigation keys to move up and down the menus. The four menu items are : SOLVE, PUZZLES, OPTIONS, and ABOUT : SolveClicking on 'SOLVE' will take you to the crossword. The program will remember where you're up to, if you have to leave midway through a crossword. Use the navigation keys to move around the grid. When a word is highlighted, you can bring up its clue with the main selection button on your phone. Click 'OK' to return to the grid after reading the clue. The brightly coloured square highlights the active letter. The colour of this square can be changed under OPTIONS. Use your keyboard to enter the correct letter, then use the navigation keys to move to the next letter in the word. Repeatedly pressing a letter key will scroll through the letter options for that key. When a word has been entered correctly, it will turn black, and its letters can no longer be erased or edited. Small yellow arrows at the edges of the crossword grid show that there is more of the grid in those directions. Use your phone's navigation keys to scroll the grid. You can also move through the grid using the Call Key. The '1' key will erase the active letter. The '0' key will clear the grid. The '*' key will reveal the letter in the selected square, as a hint. Revealed letters have a small red dot in the top right hand corner. PuzzlesThis section contains the crosswords that are included in your MoXWord bundle. You can change between them at any time; MoXWord will remember where you're up to in each puzzle. Once you've clicked 'Select' against a puzzle, you may need to click on 'Options' and then 'Menu' to return to the Main Menu, and then click 'Solve' to play that puzzle. Each phone will have a slightly different way of navigating around these menu items. OptionsLetter size can be either Small, Medium, or Large. There are also 6 letter highlight / crossword border colours to choose from : Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue and Pink. Use your navigation keys to highlight the settings you prefer, and click 'Select', then return to the Puzzle main page. About MoXWordAll crosswords have been written by Denise Sutherland. Quick Play HintsThe clue key shows the clue for the currently highlighted word. The word is also shown with dashes for blank letters, and filled in letters appearing in position. Your phone's normal navigation keys allow you to move around the grid, selecting new words. The grid will autoscroll if it is larger than the screen. Look for the little yellow arrows! The coloured square is where the next letter will be typed, the coloured and gray squares show the selected word. The letters can be typed using the mobile keyboard, and are automatically in uppercase. After typing a letter, use the navigation keys to move to the next square.
On completion the percentage of correct letters, less any revealed letters, is given. Small screen Large screen |
